  1. General Meeting with Caterpillar and Participation Raffle

Date: Wednesday, January 24th

Time: 5:30 pm

Place: 119 MSEB

Come join us for our first general meeting this semester with Caterpillar, the worldwide leader in the manufacturing of construction, agricultural, and forestry equipment. Also, you have the chance to win prizes based on the participation points you’ve earned with us. If you’ve ever been to a general meeting, professor lunch, been part of a committee, etc., then you have points! Also, bring non-perishable food items to the meeting and you’ll get more points. And, as always, FREE PIZZA!

  1. Intramurals

ASME is sponsoring two intramural teams this spring: co-rec indoor soccer and a men’s basketball team. Email Kaz Haruna at kharun2@uiuc.edu to sign up or for more info. Games for both leagues start this Sunday, January 28th, so sign up now! Invite your friends!

  1. EOH Projects

For those of you who don’t know what the Engineering Open House is, it is an annual, free, and public showcasing of the projects of engineering students at the University of Illinois. ASME is preparing an exhibit again, and we need your help! The first meeting for the EOH committee is Tuesday, January 23 at 4:45 in the Student Lounge in MEB.  If you would like more information or would like to find out how you can help prepare this year’s exhibit, please attend.  The projects currently underway for ASME are a penny smasher and a hovercraft!

  1. M.E. for Me! Conference

February 10, 2007 – Tenth annual ME for Me conference. Have you ever wondered what exactly a mechanical engineer does in industry? What projects he or she may be responsible for? Whether international travel is a possibility? To answer these common questions and shed light on the working engineering world, engineers from seven companies and a representative from Engineering Career Services will discuss the various career paths and choices available to mechanical engineers. In addition to industry exposure, students will also receive a participation gift, lunch, and a chance to win one of several prizes. Signups will be online by the end of Tuesday. For more information, please contact Xingyuan Wang at xwang22@uiuc.edu.

  1. Relay for Life

ASME has its own team for Relay for Life, a fun-filled overnight event designed to bring together those who have been touched by cancer in our community. The web page can be found on the American Cancer Society page for University of Illinois: http://www.acsevents.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=202718&lis=1&kntae202718=5B2D729037E54997BC473122515726D2. We are recruiting members to join now. You can join online through this page. Also, we will be planning several events in the spring semester to raise money for our Relay for Life team. The team goals are to raise at least $1,000 and to have at least 10 members. Email philanthropy director Sarah Brewer at sbrewer2@uiuc.edu if you have questions.

  1. Committees

Looking for a great way to get involved with ASME? Need a resume booster? Looking to have some fun and meet fun people? Join an ASME Committee! A list of our committees can be found here: http://asme.ec.uiuc.edu/committees.htm. We are especially looking for members for our corporate, philanthropy, and special projects committees. If you would like more info or sign up, feel free to reply to this email or email me (Jonathan Grim) directly at jdgrim2@uiuc.edu.
